Complete Fast - Abstaining from food or something else until Sundown.
Partial Fast - Abstaining from food or something else, from sunrise to sunset, daily, until the completion of the week of prayer.
Examples of things to lay aside: food, specific dietary or lifestyle items (ie. Caffeine, Television, Netflix, Alcohol, Dessert, Magazines - things are that are distractors, leisure or sustenance related).
NOTE: If you plan to fast from food and have any known health issues, please consult with your physician first and adhere to any medical, dietary requirements, as prescribed by your doctor. If your health does not permit for you to abstain from food, please choose something else to lay aside - it will be equally as effective.
HOW TO PREPARE FOR PRAYER & FASTING
As you prepare for Prayer & Fasting, we encourage you to pray and ask God what type of fast you should do / what you should lay aside. (Re: food, please be sure to adhere to health / dietary guidelines that are unique to your situation).
Shop for any resources that you might need throughout your fast (juices, vitamins, teas, produce, etc.).
We encourage you to prayerfully identify an accountability partner during this time of Fasting & Prayer, to help you stay on track.
If you are able, set aside a sacred space where you can read the Word and spend time in prayer.
Position your heart with the right motives. Know that it’s not about “afflicting yourself” for God to hear and or answer your prayers. Instead, it’s about laying the desires of your flesh aside to focus in on God and that which you stand in need of.
